Doddington's chillies unleashed!

Things are getting really hot here at Doddington as our Kitchen Garden crop of chillies – lovingly grown by head kitchen gardener Gavin Roberts - is making its way into the Farm Shop and is already popular with our heat-loving customers.

Don’t miss out on the great choice of chillies we’re offering. If you love the heat of a really hot chilli, then check out Bhut Jolokia. Guinness World Records decided in 2007 that it is officially the World's Hottest Chilli . It’s approaching a staggering one million on the Scoville Scale and our team need to wear gloves when handling it, even if they are not chopping! If this sounds too hot for you, then take comfort in the fact that the Bhut Jolokia is very aromatic and looks gorgeous when strung for drying...
We also have the Fatalie, the Fish, the Peruvian Lemon Drop and the Ring of Fire on sale, also grown here at Doddington!
The Fatalie is a very hot 3” fruit and a brilliant orange colour. The Fish is stripy green and orange then turns red, really pretty. It has an Afro American heritage with really attractive marbled foliage.
The Peruvian Lemon Drop is used in Peru to season meals. It’s bright yellow, and is a long conical crinkly fruit with few seeds and an intensely hot citrus flavour.
Last but not least, Ring of Fire is a long thin chilli that starts dark green and gets hotter as it changes to bright red.
If you would like to try cooking with our fabulous Doddington chillies, pop into the Farm Shop soon. The chillies are just 20p each, except the Bhut Jolokia which are 50p each. If you have any queries or would like a larger order for preserving, please call 01522 688581.
Free this Saturday? The Bhut Jolokia will also be the star of the show at this weekend's Cooking in the Kitchen Garden cooking demo, which is free to attend. Try Amy's Mega Hot Chilli Con Carne... if you dare! (There will be other dishes too, something for everyone.)
