Last chance to see the Hall decorated!
This weekend offers the last chance this year to soak up the festive atmosphere inside Doddington Hall but the Farm Shop, Bauble Barn and Christmas Trees are open until Christmas Eve. Why not enjoy our home-grown decorations in the House this coming Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm?
Our charming Elizabethan rooms are decorated imaginatively with stunning displays made from plants and foliage gathered from the Gardens and Estate. The House is looking wonderful and so festive: roaring fires, a towering twinkling tree grown on the Estate, family decorations and beautiful floral displays. Owner Claire Birch has worked with florist Rachel Petheram (whose business Catkin is based in Doddington’s Kitchen Garden) to create stunning displays. We hope you’ll get some ideas for your own decorations at home!
Our visitors can look forward to a unique display of inspirational ‘green’ decorations: the Great Hall with its 15ft tree and sparkling silver-themed table decorations on the family's table made with wood from the Estate looks so inviting; large globes of hydrangeas are suspended from the ceilings of the Long Gallery and lit from below; a large mistletoe and ivy ‘kissing ball’ is hanging above the staircase taking the eye upwards from the bannisters entwined with ivy and red-berried holly; a unique peacock feather and artichoke display in the drawing room is teamed up with walnut branches off which drip baubles and hand-made decorations; a plentiful arrangement of a bright red rose-hips and a frivolous pink Christmas ‘tree’ made by the family look wonderful... plus much more. Look out for the innovative ways we have used Kitchen Garden produce in particular sweetcorn, artichokes, bean pods and chillies!
Over the year the gardeners and volunteers at Doddington grow with Christmas in mind so every potting shed, greenhouse, and room with an out-of-the-way corner have been home to armfuls of drying flowers since the summer. Flowers that gave so much delight to the public during the summer will be bringing more joy to more people at Christmas. Seasonal foliage such as ivy, holly, birch twigs, red and yellow dog-wood suckers, sedums, larch, pine cones is gathered just before it is needed.
It looks stunning, and we can’t wait to welcome you! The Littlehouse will be serving hot lunches and drinks, but lunch reservations advised for the Farm Shop Cafe by calling 01522 688 581.
