Last chance to visit Gardens and take part in The Big Draw today (Sun 31 Oct)
Today is the last chance to enjoy our Gardens this year plus it's the last day of The Big Draw. One lucky young visitor to Doddington (aged eleven or under) will be winning a very enviable prize for not only their family but their primary school as well.
From 1 to 31 October, both school children and children from the families that visit us are invited to add their drawing to the wall under the loggia in the Kitchen Garden. The theme of The Big Draw this year is 'make your mark on the future' so, at the end of the month, we'll be collating all the drawings into a special book and then adding them to the important and sentimental items that document the Doddington Hall's history.
We're asking that all the drawings depict children's perceptions of the Kitchen Garden and the veg and fruit that is grown there. Children could draw a growing pumpkin, or the dish it goes into; a beautiful branch with fruit on, or the whole tree; people visiting the Kitchen Garden, or the people that work there. Exactly what children draw is entirely up to them, but it must be connected to the Kitchen Garden.
Children (with their adults in tow!) are invited to visit the Kitchen Garden then draw what they see when they get home OR bring their pencils and paper with them to draw on the spot.
The Kitchen Garden is open free most days, so pop in when you like. However, entrance is part of admission when the Gardens are open on Sundays during October. But on the other days the Kitchen Garden is normally open free to our customers from 9am to 5pm. (You are welcome to call the Farm Shop on 01522 688 581 to check if you are making a special journey.)
At the end of the month, we'll select the winning drawing - judged on skill, interpretation and imagination - and the drawer will win a school visit for their class (up to 40 children) and a family season ticket to the House & Gardens. What an amazing thing to win for your school AND your family!
