Your Vote Needed to Decide Second Place in our 'Dress for Doddington' Competition
As a part of our forthcoming exhibition of unusual and interesting wedding dresses, we have held a ‘design a wedding dress for Doddington’ competition for young people, run through their schools. We have been amazed by the up-and-coming design talent in the county; the entries are diverse, imaginative and creative. We need your help to decide who will take second prize.
Judges were Kathy Gaul (fashion lecturer at University of Lincoln), Caroline Chamberlain (professional wedding dress designer and maker based in Lincoln) and Fiona Baker (curator of the exhibition.)
First prize was won by Kimberley Van Halen of Boston High School. Kimberley’s design will be made-up by fashion students at the University of Lincoln, and included in the Exhibition for everyone to enjoy. Of her entry, Kathy Gaul said: “Although produced by a school pupil, the design of the dress stood out as having a definite sophistication and maturity of approach. The colour palettes are well toned. Her dress suits the mood, occasion and theme (of a wedding at Doddington).”
A special commendation was given to Amy Ward, for her idea for embellished surface decoration. This will be made into a 3D version by two undergraduates at the University of Lincoln and included in the Exhibition.
Of the remaining 25 designs, we need your help to decide whose design should take second place. Second place wins the opportunity of spending the day in the workrooms of Lincoln University's School of Fashion.
You can view the dress designs on our special Facebook gallery by clicking here. Please then email curator Fiona Baker with your favourite design. (One vote per person.) We’ll announce the winner of the coveted second place on Sunday 1 August during the Exhibition’s official opening.
‘Old, New, Mostly Borrowed & One Blue’ will be held in the Long Gallery at Doddington Hall & Garden every Wednesday, Sunday & Bank Holiday Monday 1pm to 5pm 1 August to 10 September. Exhibition included in admission.
