There are opportunties for both volunteering and paid employment at Doddington. PAID EMPLOYMENT There are no vacancies currently, sorry. VOLUNTEERING We have a wonderful team of volunteers at Doddington involved in many aspects of running the House and Gardens. We give all necessary training and make a contribution towards out of pocket travel expenses. We hold a number of social events during the year for our volunteers and staff. We do need a regular commitment from our volunteers to ensure that the team runs smoothly and the role is rewarding. Volunteer House Stewards Our House stewards are the face of Doddington Hall for our visitors and are central members of the team, without whom we would be unable to open to the public. Volunteer stewards play a vital part in contributing to visitors’ safe enjoyment and understanding of the Hall, in creating ‘good lasting memories’, and in assisting with the overall security of the property. Volunteer House Stewards should expect to be involved in a variety of tasks - from welcoming visitors at Front of House, giving information to visitors about the history of the house and its contents, providing practical assistance and information to visitors when required, encouraging and helping children to complete Activity Sheets, assisting disabled and visually impaired visitors to use both the Virtual and Sensory Tours, dealing with visitor complaints, security issues and health and safety issues. If you are interested in volunteering at Doddington Hall as a House Steward, please download a Covering Letter, a House Steward Role Description and an Application Form. Please do contact us if you would like more information Volunteer gardeners Update (Jan 2012): Our gardening volunteer numbers are currently at a great level, and we are at the moment not recruiting any more. However, if you are interested in being a volunteer, please consider being a House Steward as these are currently needed. Volunteer gardeners at Doddington Hall should expect to be involved in a wide variety of garden tasks depending on the seasons and needs. These would range from working to set out paths and plots, organising composting, planting fruit trees, planting seeds, weeding, pruning, explaining what we are doing to visitors, harvesting and preparing fruit and vegetables for the new Farm Shop and Café. We should always attempt to make good use of any special skills or knowledge that you may have and shall work with you to try to ensure that and special objectives you have are met within the practical constraints of running a busy productive, safe, tidy and attractive garden. There are also lots of opportunities in the Ornamental Garden with our Head Gardener Jon Lawrance. These include care of our fabulous herbaceous borders and irises (as featured on BBC Gardeners’ World); care of roses, rhododendrons; care of our wild garden areas which are rich with naturalised spring bulbs; lawn and edging-work, clipping our extensive topiary and box edged parterres. To discover more, please feel very welcome to download a Volunteer Gardener Role Description , an Application Form and a Covering Letter. Or contact us for more information. Other volunteering opportunities We are always interested to hear from people who would like to volunteer or gain work experience in other areas such as in the estate office with clerical tasks such as mail-outs, publicity, reception work; on the estate and in the woods doing work such as forestry, clearing paths and rides, fencing etc. Schools officers Sorry, we do not require any schools officers at present.
