Behind the scenes by minibus at Wilder Doddington

Let the minibus take the strain – reduced walking guided tour

For those who don’t want to take on a long walk but would like to see the start of our rewilding, join our Wilder Doddington project manager, Isobel Wright, for a gentle 1½ hour ride and walk. Following a briefing in the covered wagon shed we will climb into our minibus and drive into the private part of the estate.

We are embarking on a 100 year journey to bring nature back to Doddington. After several decades of intensive farming of our cropped land we are taking the brakes off and allowing nature to recover.

We will use the farm tracks and roads to reduce the amount of walking required.  We will stop several times to see how the landscape is changing. We will get off the minibus 2 or 3 times and take short walks to see if we can spot the cattle or other animals. During late 2022 we started letting cattle roam more freely and graze fields that used to be cropped, and you will see the impact they are having. You may spot the newly arrived Mangalitza pigs brought in for their enthusiasm for rootling the ground.  We will talk about some of our existing oases of nature, that we are encouraging to spread. Whilst we can’t guarantee wildlife we hope there will be Yellowhammer, Buzzard, Goldfinches, hare, maybe even deer and grass snakes.

Approximate duration: 1½-2 hours

£30 per person

All guests must be over 16yrs. Guests under 18yrs will need to be accompanied by a paying adult.

Booking essential, places are limited to 14 per group.

Meeting point is in front of the Wagon Shed – please see map that also shows free parking.

  • Whatever the weather we will take a leisurely drive with several stops. We hope guests will disembark to walk short distances on ground that may be uneven but we will avoid deep ruts and long vegetation.
  • We regret the minibus cannot cater for wheelchairs, but there is a low step to help guests getting in and out.
  • Please dress appropriately for the weather and ground conditions. Long trousers and long sleeves along with suitable footwear are a requirement for a comfortable visit. Bring waterproofs if wet or cold.
  • Due to uneven terrain these tours are not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
  • Dogs are not permitted as we are protecting ground nesting birds – Assistance dogs only
  • All guests must be over 16yrs. Guests under 18yrs will need to be accompanied by a paying adult.
  • Please note that tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable
