Ama Menec

of Dorset, UK

Ama Menec has been a full-time sculptor since the year 2000. Her love of ancient prehistory and animal anatomy began in 1981, when she was an art student in Cambridge and studied in the university's specialist museums. Ancient and natural history have become the twin themes in her work. She marries these themes with her own take on Art Deco styling for a sleek and streamlined but realistic look. She started making bronze sculptures in 2015, which liberate the form from gravity, enabling poses not possible in ceramics, as well as being durable and with an infinite colour palette through the bronze patination process.

Ama has exhibited her work at a wide range of events including Grand Designs, RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, the British Museum, Oxford University’s Natural History Museum, Mall Galleries, and at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, Ulster and the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh. Her work is in private collections globally.
