Michael Chaikin is a sculptor with over thirty years of experience, creating work driven by movement, chance and joy. Originally trained as a GP in Brighton, he made the decisive choice to change direction. He studied at art college in Falmouth, Cornwall, before returning to Brighton to work as a sculptor. Although creatively happy, the need for larger studio space eventually drew him back to Cornwall, where generous industrial buildings allowed his work to grow in scale and ambition.

Michael works across many materials, most notably copper, stainless steel and Perspex. He is best known for his kinetic sculptures, which move through wind, hand‑cranked mechanisms or electric motors. Random, complex motion is central to his practice, giving each sculpture a sense of intelligence, narrative and independent life. For Michael, movement is life and beauty combined with unpredictable motion is a constant source of happiness.
