The Doddington Hall Scarecrow Competition gives young creative thinkers the opportunity to construct something truly spooky each year for Halloween half term. This year's theme was magic and all entries have been displayed on the Gatehouse Lawn during half term. Each year, the winning class/group wins a Doddington Christmas tree for their classroom.

THE WINNER IS...

We're pleased to announce that this year's winner is 'Fendral The Wizard' by The Nest Nursery and Pre-school. Claire Birch, owner of Doddington Hall, is very impressed by the use of recycled materials used to create Fendral and thinks the magical wizard fits the theme perfectly. A huge well done to all classes/groups for such creative entries!

HOW FENDRAL WAS MADE

Fendral the wizard has an old tote bag for a head, filled with newspapers! His beard and hair are made from used plastic bags and donated wool tied onto some willow twigs. His body has been upcycled from a coffee bean sack, donated by a large coffee shop chain and reused to fill with lots and lots of plastic packaging... all collected by the children. Fendral has old tin cans for his arms and recyclable pieces of plastic for his hands... to perform magic! The cloak was a donated old curtain panel and his wizard dress was an old Halloween costume. Fendral's legs are extremely special, they have been created using eco-bricks which have been formed by the children cutting non-recyclable plastic and filling plastic bottles.
