The gardener working in the Kitchen Garden at Doddington Hall

Seasonal
Produce

We grow an assortment of seasonal produce in our Kitchen Garden at Doddington Hall. This historic walled garden supplies fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs throughout the year, all grown organically with the seasons and harvested at their peak.

Spring

As the cold winter subsides, spring brings the first signs of new life to the Kitchen Garden. Fresh greens take centre stage as the garden begins to awaken - and we welcome the much-anticipated return of Doddington rhubarb!
Sprouting Broccoli

Small, tender spears packed with flavour, you’ll find this spring favourite served with our Sunday roast at the Grain Store.

Asparagus

One of our favourite spring vegetables. Grab it while you can – English grown asparagus has a short season and gets snapped up fast! A regular on our à la carte specials board.

Summer Salad

We pick our fresh, young leaves early in the season to create light, crisp salads. The side salads served in both of our cafés are all made with our homegrown KG produce.

Doddington Rhubarb

A beautiful vibrant pink, with a sharp, tangy flavour, you’ll spot this on our menus throughout spring – our chefs love to get creative with it.

Summer

Summer is when the Kitchen Garden is at its most abundant, with long sunny days driving strong, vibrant growth. This is our peak season for flavour, colour and sweetness.
Courgettes

The perfect veg for a Great British summer - courgettes thrive in warm weather but love a bit of gentle rain.

Tomatoes

The most versatile of ingredients, you can never have too many tomatoes. From tomato tartare and bruschetta to homemade passata and gazpacho, there are endless ways to enjoy these little balls of fun.

Berries

Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries – even mulberries. We grow them all at Doddington and love every one of them. The perfect decoration for our afternoon tea.

Apples

We grow a variety of apples in our orchard, and you can buy Doddington apple juice from the Farm Shop. Sometimes high winds cause our apples to fall from the trees prematurely, but these early drops are great for baking or preserves.

Autumn

As the warm weather subsides, the garden slows but continues to produce plenty of hearty veg as we prepare to embrace the colder months ahead.
Beetroot

Packed with goodness, we use beetroot for our wellness bowls, salads and flatbreads. Paired with a tangy feta, it’s chef’s kiss

Squash

Another favourite with our chefs, you can use squash in so many ways. Perfect for roasting, this gorgeous gourd always takes centre stage on our autumn menus.

Pumpkins

From soups and risottos to spiced cakes and sweet pies, the humble pumpkin is not just for Halloween. We grow over 30 varieties of pumpkins and gourds at Doddington, perfect for carving, cooking – or making into candles!

Find out how!
Chard

Part of the beet family, chard is another nutritious veg you need to get to know. Chard takes pride of place on our wedding menus, and often features on our Sunday roasts.

Winter

Winter sees the Kitchen Garden rest and regenerate after a busy growing season. Behind the scenes, the soil is nourished and prepared – and we start making marmalade!
Parsnips

Everyone’s festive favourite, parsnips are a staple on our Christmas menus. Roast them, mash them, simmer them into a soup. Sweet, smooth and a little bit earthy. Our Kitchen Gardener Ellie harvests a bumper crop every winter.

Kale

The coolest cruciferous in town. You’ll spot this superfood on our Sunday roast menu and in the Farm Shop. Sauté it, blend it into a smoothie, or roast the leaves for a healthy alternative to crisps.

Celeriac

One of the most under-rated (and unattractive) vegetables, celeriac should not be overlooked. It’s subtle aniseed flavour and creamy texture make it perfect for soup, purées and curries.

Blood & Seville Oranges

Whilst we don’t technically grow these in our Kitchen Garden, they are highly sought after in the Farm Shop. Known for their beautiful crimson flesh and sweet, zesty flavour, blood oranges are great for cocktails, salads and desserts. Their more bitter sister, the Seville orange, is best for marmalade and adding a touch of tartness to sweet bakes.
