Gavin Roweth

of East Sussex, UK

After studying at art colleges in the 1980s, Gavin Roweth returned to sculpting full-time two decades ago. It was during workshops on the Isle of Portland that he discovered his affinity for the local limestone. Its dense structure allows for intricate detailing and textural variation, while its creamy white hue reflects light beautifully, lending a reflective quality to his work.

Stone has been a constant presence throughout human history, first as a tool for survival, later as a medium for artistic expression. For Gavin, sculpting it fosters a deep connection to our shared past and to the Earth’s geological story.

Gavin began his practice with figurative sculpture but now focuses on abstract forms. His work ranges from large-scale outdoor installations designed for gardens and public spaces to smaller indoor pieces. His sculptures have found homes with collectors across the UK, Europe, China and the United States.
