Jason Heppenstall

of West Yorkshire, UK

Jason Heppenstall is a scrap‑metal sculptor based in West Yorkshire, with almost 14 years of experience working full‑time as an artist. Using entirely reclaimed materials, his practice is driven by a strong commitment to sustainability; every fragment of metal is repurposed, ensuring nothing goes to waste and each piece lives on through sculpture.

Nature is a central influence in Jason’s work, with many sculptures inspired by wildlife and the natural world, though his practice also embraces the unexpected through imaginative and often unusual private commissions. His background in the steel industry underpins his sculptural approach, bringing a deep understanding of welding, structural integrity and working with steel.

Jason’s public sculptures are widely accessible, including a salmon outside Sheffield train station, a peregrine falcon in Sheffield and a monumental godwit at Hull docks. Alongside these, he produces numerous private commissions, often for collectors who build extensive collections of his work. Beginning with simple drawings and a clear three‑dimensional vision of the final piece, Jason transforms industrial materials into expressive, dynamic forms. Listening to music is an essential part of his creative process, though once immersed in the sculpture, it often fades into the background as Jason’s focus and creativity take over.
