Why we need you

The Doddington Estate is an increasingly popular destination for walkers and dog owners. We want to encourage people to explore the landscape and enjoy its many footpaths, bridleways and permissive paths.

Work to restore nature through the Wilder Doddington project is gathering pace and we want to use this opportunity to engage with visitors, connect them with nature and tell them about our groundbreaking rewilding work.

At the same time, our wildlife and habitats are vulnerable and precious, so we need to make sure that people visit responsibly. This includes encouraging visitors to remain on public rights of way and permissive paths and to keep their dogs on leads.

What you will be doing

As a Rambling Ranger, you will walk the estate’s path network or support visitors from our Information Hub. In either role, you will chat with visitors, offer directions, answer questions and share information about activities and events.

You will be a welcoming face of Wilder Doddington, helping people enjoy their visit while encouraging them to respect the landscape, wildlife and livestock.

Ideally, you will be available during busy periods such as weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.

What skills do you need?

You will make a difference to the experiences of visitors and help them connect with nature. You will have the chance to inspire people and instil a love of wildlife that will hopefully encourage them to act on nature’s behalf.

By helping to ensure that people use the site responsibly, you will directly support nature by giving wildlife and livestock the space they need to thrive.

You will learn new skills and gain knowledge about rewilding and nature. By spending time across the estate, you will also be able to enjoy your own connection with nature and the outdoors.

Our volunteers are a friendly bunch and you will meet new people with similar interests, with the opportunity to make new friends.

Other information

If you have a dog, you are very welcome to bring it with you while walking the estate. We find that having a dog can help build connections with other dog walkers while setting a positive example of responsible dog walking.

Our volunteering programme is open to all, although we regret that we are unable to accept volunteers under the age of 18.

We will provide relevant training, equipment and branded clothing and will try to accommodate any specific needs you may have.

Our volunteers organise regular social activities for the volunteer team. These can range from an evening in the pub to a visit to a relevant nature project or an informal walk and catch-up.
