Chris Johns

of Warwickshire UK

Chris has been working as a sculptor since graduating from Birmingham School of Art in 2008. Specialising in metalwork; his early career focused on public art exploring industrial heritage. A bursary to study iron casting at the Museum of Steel Sculpture at Ironbridge led to collaborations with art schools in Gdansk and Wroclaw in Poland, a series of public artworks around Shropshire and an exhibition at the STEAM museum at the GWR works in Swindon.

With a background in engineering Chris has always been drawn to investigating processes and materials both traditional and industrial. An eclectic, problem solving approach which has included work in film and theatre design and technical pieces including sundials, kinetic art and physical sculpture as a medium for storytelling.

Steel has always been a primary material, utilising basic and universal processes like forging, welding and sand casting which have a place in both the ancient and modern worlds.
