Colin Bowler

of Nottinghamshire, UK

Based in Retford, Nottinghamshire, Colin Bowler is a self-taught copper artist who began his craft during lockdown to keep busy. He loves working with copper; it’s a natural, endlessly recyclable material with a warmth and character that deepens over time.

Nature has always been close to Colin’s heart, especially his childhood days spent in the woods and by the river, surrounded by trees, wildlife, and the quiet details that often go unnoticed. The forms and textures he encountered, from feathers to leaves, often inspire his work as he seeks to capture and honour these details in every piece he creates.

Colin loves trying to recreate the lifelike movement of the animals he makes, the subtle turn of a head, the lift of a claw, always aiming to breathe life into his copper work.

Colin’s work has always been personal, created for his own enjoyment, never with the intention to sell or display. He never set out to become an artist. His work began as a simple hobby in retirement, and it remains so.
