Eleanor Swan

of County Wicklow, Ireland

Eleanor Swan is an award-winning Irish ceramic artist and sculptor based in County Wicklow, Ireland. After 25 years in nursing, she discovered her passion for clay while studying at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Graduating with First Class Honours in 2006, she was selected as a ‘New Emerging Maker’ by the Crafts Council of Ireland. She went on to complete a master’s in design (Ceramics) in 2010.

In 2011, Eleanor established her studio at Russborough House, a historic estate that continues to inspire her work. A passionate hand builder, she explores the expressive potential of clay using a range of materials, from grogged architectural clay for large-scale sculpture to fine porcelain for more delicate work. Her practice is rooted in curiosity and innovation, always pushing creative boundaries.

Eleanor has exhibited widely across Ireland and internationally, including in Japan, China, the USA and Europe. Her work is held in major collections worldwide. She also lectures regularly and is a founding member of the SULT Artists Collective and an active member of Ceramics Ireland.
