Jo studied sculpture under Ivor Roberts-Jones and Michael Kenney at Goldsmiths College, graduating with a BA before attending Reading University for a postgraduate teaching year. Later, Jo moved to Bristol where she taught art and continued to develop her own work.

Jo’s work is concerned with the human form and its relationships with and comparisons to landscape and environment. Jo works with clay to replicate her ideas in scale and texture, revealing ambiguous, self-contained characters that are contemplative, quiet, together yet apart.

While landscape is a huge influence, Jo also draws a great deal from early fifteenth century Renaissance artists such as Giotto, Simone Martini, Masaccio, Pierro della Francesca and fresco painters as their boldness and simplicity is remarkable.

Jo’s sculpture has been exhibited in many places since 1996 including Chichester Cathedral, the Bishop’s Palace Gardens at Wells, View Gallery Bristol, The Sculpture Show, Artspace, Cube Gallery Bristol, The Life Building City of London, Chapel Row Gallery Bath and many more. Jo’s sculpture is also in private collections in this country, Australia, USA and Denmark and includes commissioned portraits.
