Past president of the Royal Society of Sculptors and past president of the Oxford Art Society, Johnannes von Stumm is known both for his works in stone, glass and metal, fused into finely balanced forms, and for his series of Immaterial Figures where he has been able to eliminate the shadows to create figures of light and ultimate transparency that uses negative space.
The works in the Immaterial series are a logical progression of von Stumm’s mission to translate and transform into solid sculpture the transitory effects of light; effectively to de-materialise the image in space.
