John O'Connor

of Suffolk, UK

British sculptor John O’Connor started out ‘on the tools’ as a bricklayer. In his late twenties, John completely reinvented himself and embarked on his dream ambition of becoming a sculptor. He received his formal training with what was formerly known as ‘ The Sculpture Academy' at London Bridge in 1999.

His signature style is clear to see with the exaggerated form and sincere study of the lone figure.

An exaggeration of the figure is a recurring theme in John’s work. Blending the physical with the emotional, he explores the fabric of his own internal worlds. He approaches his work with an honest and open heart, where he can share what he believes to be' states of being that are inherent to us all'.

John demonstrates these universal states of mind and emotion with a visual dialogue we can all relate to. He takes us on a journey to a place where familiarity and shared emotional expressions unite us. His works manage to reveal an intimate examination of the ‘self’. The works are often personal, emotional, and poetic.

John has been practising as a professional sculptor for over 25 years. His work has become increasingly popular and much sought after, both locally and internationally.
