Michael Thacker

of Lincoln, UK

From the local limestone he carves to the natural shapes his work harks back to, Michael’s time spent in Lincolnshire still shines through in his abstract-style sculptures. Having studied sculpture at Loughborough University, followed by training at York as a stone mason, Michael then found himself in our county - working at Lincoln Cathedral no less as a carver/mason.

For 15 years, and while still working in his own studio making sculptures, Michael added his touch to the guardian of Lincoln City. However, 2015 saw him shift his focus, full-time, onto working from his studio based in Lincoln.

With areas of his pieces often gilded with gold or platinum leaf to give the forms an inner glow, it’s no surprise that recent commissions have taken him very much outside Lincolnshire and have included a group of sculptures for the Katara Towers in Doha and three large pieces for the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore.
