Rachel Higgins

of Warwickshire, UK

Rachel is a metal sculptor renowned for her finely detailed animal sculptures, each built around a hand‑formed copper wire structure. Working from photographs, sketches, books, online resources and film, she carefully refines the animal’s form before building up the surface with perforated and textured copper, brass and silver. Enamel is used selectively to add highlights and subtle colour, bringing vitality and character to each piece.

Rachel studied Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University from 1990 to 1993 and has since exhibited widely across the UK. Her work is deeply inspired by the wildlife around her. Growing up on a farm in the Warwickshire countryside fostered a lifelong connection to animals and the natural world. She continues to work from her studio in the old farmhouse, alongside her husband, who is also an artist.

Rachel has completed several public sculptures nationwide, but now focuses primarily on smaller, intimate works, ranging from insects to life‑size foxes.
