Spring at Doddington

Doddington Hall during spring is simply magical. As soon as the first spring bulbs begin to emerge, the gardens return to life, filled with fresh energy and a sense of possibility. Each month, new flowers take their turn in the spotlight, creating an ever-changing display of colourful blooms.

From February, we patiently await the first snowdrops, their delicate white flowers carpeting the gardens, marking the end of the winter – and the start of the Spring Bulb Pageant at Doddington. Our heritage daffodils are the first to arrive, followed by an array of colourful spring blooms.

Our stunning blossom display returns in late March, with the first of the cherry trees transforming the gardens with their dazzling pink flowers. On a warm spring day, there’s nothing better than enjoying a wander beneath the trees - the sunlight dancing through the branches and the gentle hum of bees filling the air.

Across the wider estate, our walking trails offer another opportunity to enjoy the early signs of spring, as the landscape welcomes the next generation of wildlife. From fluffy ducklings to new calves, Wilder Doddington becomes a haven for young animals finding their feet.

On our menus, produce from the Kitchen Garden takes centre stage as we harvest our early crops – a vibrant smorgasbord of spring greens, Swiss chard and rhubarb. After a quiet winter, it’s incredible to watch the Kitchen Garden come back to life. By summer, these carefully-planned beds will be bursting with fresh produce.

Thinking about
stopping by?

With so much to do at Doddington, it can be hard to fit everything into just one day. So here are a few useful things to know before you set off:

Celebrate Mother’s Day

Our Spring Bulb Pageant coincides with Mother’s Day in March, offering the perfect opportunity to treat someone special to a day at Doddington.

Our beautiful floral displays extend beyond the gardens, as we welcome new spring collections in both our Home and Clothing stores.

Mother’s Day is also a chance to get everyone together for a family meal. Each year, we celebrate with a special afternoon tea in our Tea Room, and a traditional roast in the Grain Store and Farm Shop Café.

Spring into action

For many, the Spring Equinox marks the start of a new year. If you’re slow to emerge from your winter hibernation, a gentle introduction to a new hobby may be just what you need.

The brighter days and fresh spring air provide the perfect excuse to explore the great outdoors at Doddington, whether that’s picking up a padel racket for the first time or enjoying a relaxing bike ride around the estate.
