Louise Bandy
Louise Bandy creates galvanised wire sculptures of animals and birds that express movement held at its edge – as if the creature might breathe or shift at any moment. Her work is rooted in a lifelong fascination with the individuality, character and presence of animals.
Louise Bandy creates galvanised wire sculptures of animals and birds that express movement held at its edge – as if the creature might breathe or shift at any moment. Her work is rooted in a lifelong fascination with the individuality, character and presence of animals.
Growing up in the Warwickshire countryside, she became attuned to how animals carry energy through posture and motion. Working from observation, photographs and video, she studies the way light moves across muscle and form.
After earning a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from De Montfort University in 2005, she explored other materials before returning to wire for its physical honesty and the challenge of shaping energy and emotion from a simple roll of wire. Her layered anatomical forms aim to evoke spirit, strength and fragility.
Her sculptures have been exhibited in the UK and commissioned for private and public spaces, including Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham.
