Marie Prett

of Kent, uk

Marie Prett is a ceramic sculptor with a lifelong passion for clay, having left school at sixteen to study ceramics and continuing her practice through six years of formal education and over three decades as a professional artist. Working exclusively by hand, she sculpts human and animal forms using beautifully elastic earthstone hand‑building clay, finished with oxides, vibrant slips, and glazes.

Her work is inspired by literature, folklore, myth and fairytale, alongside a romantic vision of an ‘Old World’ circus, one where animals and people coexist with warmth, humour and joy. Storytelling sits at the heart of her practice, with each piece infused with energy, movement and colour to evoke emotional connection.

Marie continually tests the limits of clay, celebrating its strength and versatility, balancing families on giraffe legs, filling boats with figures, or suspending performers delicately on tiptoe, bringing the medium vividly to life.
