Jonty Hurwitz & Yifat Davidoff
Jonty Hurwitz and Dr Yifat Davidoff work at the intersection of art, science and technology, creating sculpture shaped by mathematics, physics and human experience. Born in Johannesburg, Jonty studied Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand before working as a researcher at the University of Cape Town. He later travelled through India studying yoga and wood carving, before settling in London and building a career in technology alongside his artistic practice. Yifat is an interdisciplinary creative director and researcher whose work explores art, science and leadership. As Creative Director of Mathematics of Self Ltd and Sentient.art Ltd, she works closely with Jonty to shape the conceptual and narrative framework of their collaborative practice, translating complex ideas into emotional and thought-provoking sculptural experiences.
Jonty Hurwitz is an artist and engineer whose work merges art, physics and advanced technology. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he spent his early years living in rural towns before studying Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand and working as a full‑time researcher at the University of Cape Town. Following his studies, Hurwitz travelled extensively in India, studying yoga and wood carving, before settling in London and embarking on a career designing financial risk algorithms in the technology sector.
Since 2009, Hurwitz has created scientifically inspired artworks and anamorphic sculptures. He is internationally recognised for producing the smallest human form ever created using nanotechnology and for pioneering three‑dimensional catoptric (mirror) sculpture — a form previously unknown in art history. His works draw on centuries‑old traditions of anamorphosis, realised through contemporary computing power and involving billions of calculations derived from algorithms based on the constant π.
Dr Yifat Davidoff is an interdisciplinary creative director and researcher working at the intersection of art, science and leadership. As Creative Director of Mathematics of Self Ltd and Sentient.art Ltd, she collaborates closely with Hurwitz, shaping the conceptual and narrative framework of their work. Her practice translates complex mathematical and scientific ideas into emotional, human‑centred artistic experiences, while her research redefines experiential learning and creative leadership across academic and cultural institutions.
