Charlie Smith has been sculpting animals for UK and international collectors since his late teens. After committing to sculpture as a full‑time practice, he has focused on producing his own wildlife works, released as limited‑edition bronzes.
Charlie prefers to work from life wherever possible and regularly travels throughout the UK and abroad to observe his subjects at close range. This direct engagement informs sculptures that capture not only anatomical accuracy but also the distinctive character of each animal.
Self‑taught, Charlie creates original works in clay or plasticine, which are then cast in bronze using the age-old "lost wax" process. A long‑standing relationship with his foundry ensures that every sculpture is finished to the highest standard.
In the summer of 2021, Charlie was commissioned to sculpt a life‑size head portrait of Bo Obama, created to mark former President Barack Obama’s birthday.
