Luke Tupper is an artist primarily working in sculpture, living and working in the south west of England.
Luke’s artwork is almost exclusively in the medium of metal. After graduating art school in 2014 he took the basic skillset he gained from the metal workshop and became a professional welder fabricator and metalworker.
Developing his art practice for the past ten years, Luke incorporates industrial techniques and material knowledge to produce work that is skilfully executed while still having a grounding in art historical context and a conceptual foundation.
The key to Luke’s work is in the making. His passion for the for the work is driven by the pursuit of an objective through perpetual problem solving and pushing his capabilities. The final form is never a fixed idea and change through the process of making is allowed to organically inform the work.
The link that runs through all of Luke’s work is the concept of erosion. Inspired by natural phenomena and geological formations, his work touches on psychological and societal issues that corrode our world.
At the same time Luke’s work is also about hope and change. Evolution into a healthier relationship with nature and a more enlightened understanding of our existence.
